Letter from the Poetry Editor
The Spring Crab and I are honored to present 12 poems that address so many aspects of the theme “ritual”: religious ritual, family ritual (“Holy Communion Redux” by Molly Surdevant), rituals surrounding food (“Avocado” by Jessica Lee McMillan), eating, not eating (“Jade” by Lauren Davis), things we say, think (“Take Notes on Everything” by Erin Little), and do from the simplest private gesture (“Turning the Earth” by Jaimie K. Wilson) to the largest political statement (“Man Sets Himself on Fire on the Steps of the US Capitol” by Clara Trippe), from childhood rituals (“Coca-Cola” by Zachary Noah Rahn) to adult rituals (“Orchidaceae” by Sarah Kersey), from the body’s rituals (“This body it is for” by Eben Bein) to nature’s rituals (“After the Drought, the Flood” by Christine Barkley), and from death (“Long Pig” by Helena Pantsis) to life (“IVF as Ritual Sacrifice” by Jerrod Laber).
I want to thank all who submitted to The Spring Crab “Ritual” issue. It was a privilege to read your work. —Linda Malnack |
